The market extended rally on short covering in auto, FMCG, healthcare and banking & financials stocks. The Sensex rose 208.79 points or 0.85 percent to 24890.82 and the Nifty climbed 69.30 points or 0.92 percent to 7579.60.
The broader markets also traded in line with benchmarks. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.9 percent each. The market breadth remained strong too as about three shares advanced for every share declining on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Infosys, ITC, Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel and Hindalco Industries gained 1-2 percent while TCS remained under pressure, down 1.5 percent following tepid topline performance in Q3FY16.
