Sensex, Nifty trade volatile; Infosys, Wipro stocks gain

Vedanta, Wipro, HCL Tech, and Tata Motors were top gainers on Nifty, while Asian Paints, Indiabulls Housing, and GAIL fell the most.

Equity benchmark indices swung between gains and losses in the morning trade as losses were witnessed in realty, auto, and pharma stocks.

The Sensex rose 16 points at 38,717, while the Nifty was at 11,586, down 17 points.

Vedanta, Wipro, HCL Tech, and Tata Motors were top gainers on Nifty, while Asian Paints, Indiabulls Housing, and GAIL fell the most.

The Indian rupee opened higher at 69.59 against the US dollar.

Shares of Asian Paints dropped 2% in the early morning trade. The company said a fire broke out in its Vishakhapatnam facility in Andhra Pradesh.

Shares of Infosys extended gains for the second consecutive trading session and rose to hit an all-time high at Rs773 on the NSE. The IT company will announce its Q4 numbers on Friday.

Shares of Voltas gained 1% after the company entered into distribution agreement with a Japanese textile machines manufacturer.

The Volatility gauge, India VIX marginally up 0.38% at 20.23.

The most active stocks on the NSE are Indiabulls HF, Reliance Industries, and Yes Bank.
