INDIAN BENCHMARKS: SENSEX ENDS ON A SLUGGISH NOTE, NIFTY BELOW 9900

Equity benchmark indices ended the day on a subdued note, with the Nifty closing below 9900, while the Sensex ended one-fifth of a percent lower.

The Sensex closed down 50.95 points at 31904.40, while the Nifty ended 26.30 points lower at 9873.30. The market breadth was negative as 1277 shares advanced against a decline of 1440 shares, while 153 shares were unchanged.

Axis Bank and ONGC gained the most on both indices, while Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Canara Bank were the top losers.

The crucial resistance for Nifty spot is now seen at 9930 and above this 9985 Support for the immediate term is now placed at 9830 and next support will be 9780.
